When I prefer eating sushi at home and don't want to spend much money for dinner, I sometimes buy packed sushi pieces at a supermarket. It will cost me less than 1000 JPY, which is more reasonable than the sushi at restaurants. Its taste is not so good than that at restaurants but the cost performance is rather good.

Now it is about 30 degrees Celsius even in the morning and one of the hottest season in Japan. It was 40.2 degrees Celsius at Tatebayashi, Gunma, near Tokyo, yesterday.

By the way, today, the 15th, August, is the day when the World War II ended in Japan. No more war, conflict, terror...

Nihonbashi

This is Nihonbashi, the name of bridge. "Nihon" means Japan and "Bashi" means bridge so the name means "Japan bridge" in English.

Nihonbashi used to be the center of Tokyo during Edo period and is the beginning of the road to Kyoto, Tokaido, and because of such milestone, Mitsukoshi and Takashimaya, the most established department stores in Japan, are near the bridge.

Now this stone-made bridge is covered with the expressways, encompassing the entire Tokyo like the web. Every time I pass througth the bridge, I feel the bridge seem to need the sunlight.

The insect reminds most Japanese of the summer holiday in childhood.

When I was a boy, I used to enjoy catching this insect in summer, as well as cicadas and grasshoppers. I used to be very good at catching these insects.

Now, thanks to catching such insects so often in childhood, I'm rather good at battering cockroaches running about around the kitchen to death:-)

Men are enjoying Shogi, a Japanese chess game came from China a long time ago, on the street. Now less people enjoy it because of the release of various games but it is still now one of the most popular games in Japan among older men.

The circuit of the Imperial Palace, about 5 kilo meters, is popular as a place for jogging. On weekend, if it is sunny, many people are jogging around the Palace.

By the way, the building behind is the Parliament building.

When we walk on the streets in Tokyo, we often see people who hand out ads: for example, small packed Kleenex with ads, papered fan with printed ads, coupon ticket and more.

If you want Kleenex while staying in Tokyo, don't go to supermarkets! Go to streets, instead!!

These are empty boxes and used to contain some salmons. Salmon is very popular also in Japan and we eat raw and sliced one as sushi and the grilled salmon as breakfast, along with boiled rice and miso soup.

This photo is deliberately upside down and the scenery reminds me of the boyhood. When I was a boy, I sometimes used to like to see the scenery around me from between my legs and the way of seeing it made the ordinary scenery dramatically change.

It was very humid today in Tokyo and the weather make me want to eat rather ice lollies than ice creams.

Gari Gari kun is one of very popular brands of ice lollies in Japan and I prefer the lolly.

Theme Day for the month of 1, August: Typical breakfast

I confess that it used to be hard for me to wake up in the morning. When I woke up late, I used to have such jelly breakfast. Only several tens of seconds are enough to have it, which seems to contain enough nutrition to start off the day.

Now such jellies are sold almost every convenience store and popular among business persons who wake up late and don't have enough time to have a breakfast slowly
