Theme Day for the month of July: The Color Red, red papered lanterns, Aka-chochin
These red lanterns are often seen to hang in front of a Japanese style pub, Izakaya in Japanese, or a restaurant, serving Oden, a Japanese winter pot dish consisting of various ingredients, stewed for hours in kelp, such as Japanese radish, fish-paste, boiled egg and more.
By the way, the red of the lanterns seems to draw the passengers strongly inward.
Many other city daily photo blogs participate in this theme day today, why don't you pay them a visit? Remember, due to time difference they might not all be ready when you visit them.

Great!
I know the Oden-ya in Tukiji fish market. I've been there few times but they will be closed by lunch time since they do open for workers there.
Very nice composition and goo don you include yellow one (Good contrast).
they look more yellow to me but then I'm colour-blind
I like the red lanterns, they certainly are very eye-catching.
Macky, This is really nice, and I agree with Ben re. your comp and the contrast. Well seen!

happy theme day:)
Tres belles lanternes. j'aime beaucoup, tres graphique
Very beautiful lanterns. I like much, very graph
It all sounds good except for the "stewed for hours in kelp" part. Does kelp has a fishy taste or does it taste like spinach?
Personally I think that explanations in English are a large part of the success of the City Daily Photo Blog community. However, those explanations would not be read if it were not for the photos. In your photo the red signs which draw us in because they seem exotic. Yet for someone who lives in Japan the language on the signs is not exotic at all ... It is enjoyable to be part of a global community.
Always nice to see such things. It makes for a colourful display.
Gorgeous lanterns! It is a great representation of Japanese bars and pubs.
Beautiful - I love it! I have a classic Wisconsin rural scene for Theme Day today.
Bright and interesting - some great information, too!
Thank you very much for the comment:-))
denton,
"stewed for hours with kelp" might be correct, not "stewed for hours in kelp". Kelp is one of the most important source of taste in Japanese cusine, just like boiled and dried bonito. I cannot explain the taste because it is so delicate...Its taste is the taste of the sea. Anyway, tasting is believing!
