Kon-bini: 24-hour convenience store
These are five popular 24/7 stores, called convenience store in Japan and now such stores is everywhere in Tokyo. One of the biggest chain stores, Seven Eleven come from US and the other, Lawson, Family Mart, am pm and Sunkus are Japanese. We can buy a variety of stuffs, from daily foods and beer to stationery and magazine. Plus, we can book some concert and hotel and can send stuffs via delivery service like Fedex and DHL. Most of stores let us use small washing room.
By the way, I prefer Seven Eleven and am pm.

7-11 used to be popular in NYC until a lot of them got robbed in the early 1990s. Then 7-11 pulled out of NYC altogether. Only recently have they started coming back because NYC is safer now than ever before.
1970s, 1980s and early 1990s were bad times in NYC -- lots of crime.
I didn't know am pm is from Japan. We have an am pm store nearby too. I'm in Boston by the way.
ming: New York seem to be safer. When I have been in NYC in 2002, the subway is very clean. I have heard that some of Japanese retail shops went under because of student's shoplifting.
fay: You are right and I was mistaken. Thank you for your information. By the way, Boston is one of hottest city because a Japanese baseball player, Matsuzaka, will play baseball, wearing the uniform of Red Sox.
I've been used those shops a lot when I was still lived in Japan and also visited for short time.
you should take "Onigiri" and show the world how its package is innovative!
I forgot the innovative device of Onigiri packege. Thank you for reminding me of it.
Does the 7-11 there sell slurpies? The nice icy cold beverage that we californian's enjoy.
